DCI Volleyball Queens Secure Silver at Kipchumba Karori International Tournament.

The DCI Volleyball Queens delivered a thrilling performance, bringing Eldoret National Polytechnic’s packed stands to a standstill in a fierce gold medal battle against Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) at the Kipchumba Karori International Volleyball Tournament on Sunday, December 21, 2025.

In a high-intensity three-set thriller, the Oilers edged out the detectives, keeping fans on the edge of their seats from the first serve. Led by setter Corporal Jane Mumbua, the Queens grabbed an early lead in the first set, but KPC fought back with precision to win 25-22. The second set swung like a rollercoaster, with both sides digging deep, yet the Oilers prevailed 25-22 again. KPC sealed the victory in the third set, leaving DCI with a prestigious silver medal, a first runner-up trophy, and Sh500,000 cash prize.

Corporal Sarah Namisi and Corporal Mercy Iminza shone brightly, earning tournament honors as best outside hitter and opposite attacker, respectively. The Queens’ finals run capped a remarkable comeback after a shaky start.

They opened slowly, losing to powerhouse KPC in their first group stage match on Friday. But an hour later, the sleuths rebounded decisively against Uganda’s champions, KCB Nkumba, sweeping in three straight sets. Next came a must-win clash against Kenya Defence Forces (KDF). After splitting the first four sets 2-2, a tense tiebreaker ensued. DCI’s slow start handed KDF a 4-point edge, but Mercy Iminza’s ruthless attacks sparked a surge, clinching 15-13 and securing a semi-final berth against unbeaten rivals Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB).

The semi-final drew hundreds of neutral fans. KCB surged ahead in the first set, but DCI struck back with precision to take the second and third. The bankers rallied via tactical subs to grab the fourth, forcing a fifth decider. DCI raced to a 10-5 lead, stumbled briefly to a 12-12 tie after switching sides, but coach Patrick Sang’s timeout ignited composure, sealing 15-13. This marked DCI’s historic first win over volleyball giants KCB since the team’s 2018 inception—completing triumphs over Kenya Pipeline, Kenya Prisons, and now KCB.

Team manager Chief Inspector Neddy Kilimo credited the success to dedication and hard work, thanking DCI Director Mr. Mohamed Amin for support. Head coach Sergeant Patrick Sang called it no easy feat, expressing delight. DCI Staffing Officer Personnel II Mr. Muriuki Raria congratulated the squad, urging them not to settle for silver but to chase gold in the Kenya Volleyball Federation League.

The Queens’ journey showcased resilience, from group stage stumbles to silencing defending champions. Their silver not only bags hardware but boosts morale for future dominance, proving detectives can volley with Kenya’s elite. This tournament triumph underscores growing prowess, blending athleticism, strategy, and unyielding spirit in international competition.
