Government Commissions Inoi Division Headquarters in Kirinyaga, Enhancing Service Delivery.

Kirinyaga, Jan 28.

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has officially commissioned the Inoi Division headquarters, alongside an Assistant County Commissioner’s (ACC) office and National Registration Bureau services for ID cards and civil registration. The event, attended by regional security officers, local leaders, and residents, marks a key milestone in decentralizing government services to Kirinyaga communities.

Murkomen stated the new ACC office will boost coordination of national programs, enhance security, and streamline administration. “We have come here to officially commission Inoi Division after the Jukwaa La Usalama report, which recommended more decentralisation of government services,” he said, noting plans to create another division in Mwea East’s Nyangati area. Kirinyaga Central now boasts three divisions: Kerugoya, Mutitu, and Inoi.

He stressed free initial ID registration for youth, amid reviews of birth and death certificate fees, and thanked MP Gachoki Gitari for NG-CDF funding and lobbying efforts. “This office belongs to the people. The occupants are public servants and I urge you to work closely with all the National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) to ensure smooth delivery of services,” Murkomen added.

The event featured a humorous interruption when a dog wandered near the podium. Murkomen paused, then quipped, “It has done nothing wrong; it is on duty,” sparking laughter before continuing. He highlighted Jukwaa la Usalama appeals for closer services, reaffirming commitments in high-density or remote areas. Last month, the government activated three Nairobi sub-regions, 42 sub-counties, 122 divisions, 414 locations, and 453 sub-locations.

Kirinyaga Deputy Governor David Githanda hailed the move as “long overdue,” promising better conflict resolution and development coordination. New ACC Beth Gachamio pledged collaboration: “I thank the government for allowing me to serve the people of Inoi in such a beautiful facility. To the local people, we are here to offer you ample security and other services.”

Attendees included Principal Administrative Secretary Beverly Opwora, Central Kenya Regional Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha, area MP Joseph Gitari, MCAs led by Majority Leader Benson Ngahu, and security commanders. Residents voiced optimism for accessible, transparent services fostering peace and growth in Inoi.
