Josephat Ouma Omoto, the Director of Zion Ahadi Hospital in Kakamega County, has appeared before the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi regarding charges linked to a fraudulent scheme aimed at the Social Health Authority (SHA).
Omoto is accused of orchestrating a dishonest plan to illegally obtain public funds through false medical claims.
He allegedly secured Sh2.5 million from SHA by creating misleading representations and manipulating health-related documents submitted to the authority.
He is facing several charges, including obtaining money under false pretenses in violation of Section 313 of the Penal Code, and falsifying health documents in accordance with Section 48(5) of the SHA Act. Additionally, he is charged with acquiring and using the proceeds of crime, breaching Section 4(a) and (b), along with Section 16(1) of the Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act (POCAMLA).
In court, Omoto denied all allegations, and the judge has ordered his remand at Industrial Area Prison.
The next mention of the case is set for Monday, January 12, 2026, when the court will rule on his bail application.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) remains dedicated to investigating fraud involving the Social Health Authority and other public institutions, vowing to tirelessly pursue and hold accountable those engaged in the embezzlement of public funds.
