Nyandarua Horror, Son in Custody for Mother’s Gruesome Murder.

Detectives have intensified their inquiry into the murder of 60-year-old Millicent Wahura Mwangi, whose life was tragically cut short on November 11, 2025, in Mwireri village, Olkalou, Nyandarua Central Sub-County.

Initially reported as a missing person at the Olkalou Police Station, the case took a dark turn when early investigations suggested foul play. On November 14, three days later, passers-by in Rumathi village, approximately 37 kilometers from Olkalou, discovered a female torso concealed in a sack by the roadside. The torso was dressed in a white blouse with blue and black stripes.

Responding quickly, officers from Kipipiri Police Station documented the scene and began searching for additional body parts, but their efforts yielded no results. The torso was subsequently transported to JM Kariuki Memorial Funeral Home for preservation and autopsy.

On November 15, detectives informed the family about the torso’s discovery. In their search for their beloved mother, the family visited the funeral home and identified the remains, confirming their worst fears. This grim identification transformed the missing person case into a murder investigation.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Homicide Investigations Unit seized control of the case, partnering with local detectives to initiate a thorough manhunt for the perpetrator. Utilizing forensic intelligence, investigators identified and apprehended the primary suspect, Benson Maina Mwangi, the second-born son of the deceased, on November 20, 2025, in Kamulu.

Benson was processed and appeared in the SPM’s Court in Olkalou on November 24, where detectives secured a 21-day custodial order. He is currently in custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for January 19, 2026.

On December 23, 2025, homicide detectives, accompanied by forensic experts, conducted a scene re-enactment. Led by the suspect, they explored River Malewa in Nyandarua Central, where an underwater search revealed crucial evidence, including a machete believed to be the murder weapon, along with a bedsheet and blanket discarded by the suspect after the crime.

Investigations are ongoing as detectives work to reconstruct the final moments of Millicent Wahura Mwangi’s life and build a strong case to ensure justice is served. The community remains on edge as the investigation unfolds, seeking answers and closure in the wake of this shocking tragedy.
