Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru hosted the Daughters of Kenya – Daughters of the Mountain Chapter forum on December 18, 2025, in Kirinyaga County, bringing together women leaders from ten counties. The event served as a platform for advocating greater female participation in politics, with Waiguru calling for more women in leadership roles to drive national development.
During the colorful gathering, Waiguru was honored as the chief patron of the Daughters of the Mountain lobby group, a Mount Kenya region-focused initiative under the broader Daughters of Kenya network. She called for systemic change, declaring, “We need more women in politics to drive real development. Women are not just voters; we are leaders, innovators, and change-makers who must occupy every space at the decision-making table.” Waiguru highlighted Kirinyaga’s progress in women’s representation, noting her own tenure as evidence of what’s possible, and pledged to mentor young leaders.

“I promise to guide the next generation of women leaders, ensuring they shatter glass ceilings in politics, business, and society,” she affirmed. She emphasized unity among women as catalysts for change, urging attendees to support each other in breaking gender barriers in politics and beyond. The forum highlighted Kirinyaga’s pivotal role in regional women’s empowerment, distinct from the national Daughters of Kenya non-profit focused on girl education and anti-violence efforts.

Participants affirmed their commitment to mentoring young female leaders and increasing women’s representation ahead of future elections. Waiguru’s installation as patron underscores her longstanding advocacy, including recent visits with the group to pay condolences to Mama Ida Odinga. The event drew praise for fostering bold discussions on equity, positioning Kirinyaga as a hub for women’s political mobilization
