On Thursday, December 6, 2025, the Secretary for Information and Broadcasting, Mr. Temesi Mukani, engaged in a constructive dialogue with female journalists during the official launch of the Kirinyaga Media Queens Association (KMQA) in Kerugoya.
This event marked a pivotal moment for women in local media, spotlighting their resilience amid ongoing industry hurdles.
Established in November 2021, the KMQA aims to uphold the highest professional standards among journalists while specifically addressing challenges faced by women in the media industry. These include professional discrimination, online harassment, and concerns regarding personal security—issues that have long hindered career progression and safety.
In his address, Mr. Temesi assured the gathering that the Government is committed to developing improved policies that will effectively tackle these pressing issues. He acknowledged that some concerns, such as the shifting landscape in media consumption habits, remain unaddressed and vowed that future strategies would consider these evolving dynamics. “Future strategies would consider these evolving dynamics,” he emphasized, signaling a proactive governmental shift.
Furthermore, Mr. Temesi touched on forthcoming changes anticipated at the Kenya News Agency (KNA) and Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), emphasizing reforms to enhance their operations and adapt to the new media environment. He concluded by urging female journalists to pursue continuous education and professional development, highlighting that such advancements would better equip them to seize emerging opportunities within government and the rapidly changing media sector.
